Resort guide

This lesson covers the resorts below — pick yours in the booking form above.

Hakuba

Hakuba Valley is 10 linked resorts covering over 1,000 hectares; the largest, Happo-One, alone has 23 lifts and 14 runs. Terrain is steeper than Shiga Kogen with strong tree skiing and backcountry access, and it's one of Japan's most international resorts for lodging and nightlife.

Nozawa Onsen

Nozawa Onsen covers about 300 hectares with 2 gondolas and 19 lifts across 36 runs (40% beginner, 30% intermediate, 30% advanced) — one run stretches 10 km, among Japan's longest. The village has 13 free public hot springs to soak in after skiing.

Shiga Kogen

Shiga Kogen is Japan's largest linked ski area — 600 hectares total, 425 connected without shuttle buses, with 5 gondolas and 44 lifts across 87 runs, elevation 1,330–2,307 m. It has the longest season of any Japanese resort and is a favourite for skiers who just want to ski.

Myoko / Akakura

Myoko Kogen covers about 300 hectares, with the connected Akakura resorts making up around 115 hectares. It's known for some of the deepest powder anywhere, excellent tree skiing, and a more traditional, less commercialised mountain-village feel.

Zao Onsen

Zao Onsen is the largest resort in the Tohoku region — 25 trails (57 named runs) on 41 lifts, summit 1,661 m, 881 m of vertical, longest run 9 km. Its summit is famous worldwide for "snow monster" ice-covered trees (juhyo), and the base has around 120 onsen inns; it hosts the FIS Women's Ski Jumping World Cup each year.

Kamui

Kamui Ski Links, near Asahikawa, is known among Hokkaido regulars for uncrowded, tree-lined powder runs.

Sahoro

Sahoro Resort, in the Tokachi area, has gentle, family-friendly terrain, and the same resort runs a bear park and other attractions outside ski season.

Bankei

Bankei sits within Sapporo city itself — the most convenient to reach, compact in size, and well suited to a half-day or night-skiing session.

Onze

Snow Cruise ONZE, near Otaru, is one of the earliest ski areas to open each season in Hokkaido — small and easy to reach.

Ten resorts at one price, full-day (5-hour) lessons only: Hakuba, Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen in Nagano; Myoko and Akakura in Niigata; Zao in Yamagata; and Kamui, Sahoro, Bankei and ONZE in Hokkaido. Choose your resort when you book and a Plume Ridge consultant arranges a partner ski school coach.
